Ingredients
  

  • All-purpose flour: 2 cups 240g
  • Baking powder: 2 tsp
  • Salt: ½ tsp
  • Granulated sugar: 1 ½ cups 300g
  • Vegetable oil: ½ cup 120ml
  • Large eggs: 2 room temperature
  • Pure vanilla extract: 2 tsp
  • Whole milk: ¾ cup 180ml, room temperature
  • For American Buttercream Frosting:
  • Unsalted butter: ¾ cup 170g, softened
  • Powdered sugar: 3 cups 360g
  • Vanilla extract: 1 tsp
  • Milk: 1-2 tbsp

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C); grease and line an 8-inch round pan.
  • Whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large bowl.
  • Add oil, eggs, vanilla, and milk; mix until smooth.
  • Pour batter into pan; bake 25-30 minutes until toothpick is clean.
  • Cool in pan 10 minutes, transfer to rack to cool completely.
  • For frosting: Beat butter, add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk; mix until smooth.
  • Frost and decorate as desired.
